History Area of Concentration within Social Sciences A.A.

The History Area of Concentration within the A.A. in Social Sciences prepares students for transfer to a four-year institution. Students build a foundation in historical knowledge, develop research skills, and learn to analyze the past by evaluating and properly citing primary and secondary sources.

Program Information

The History Area of Concentration within Social Sciences A.A. is designed to prepare students to transfer to four-year institutions. This option provides the opportunity to acquire knowledge about how people have interacted within societies and between societies in relation to a multitude of disciplinary areas.

Success in the program is defined by your ability to apply what you’ve learned in real-world scenarios. This program ensures that every student achieves the following core competencies:

  • Evaluate both primary and secondary sources.
  • Create unique thesis statements and arguments supported by the evaluation of primary and secondary sources.
  • Apply a formal style of writing, proper citations, and professional ethics in written work.
  • Apply basic research techniques in history.
